#305 magical mango  ★★★★★★★★✩✩✩

My father has been telling me for weeks that he has been making and enjoying fruit smoothies.  It started from an excessive purchase of bananas.  And, it sounds like the smoothies prompted addition excessive purchases of bananas!

This past weekend was the first time I had seen him since the fruit smoothies began.  So, the topic came up and I asked a few questions.  Turns out, Dad makes the same fruit smoothie everyday with bananas as the base, some combination of frozen berries (blue, rasp, and/or straw), and yogurt.  I decided that I needed to introduce something to a banana smoothie beyond yogurt and strawberries!

I had brought a few mangoes and found the perfect combination for him!  Not only was he excited that I was making him something, but he loved the mango!  In my mind, he has already gone to the grocery store and picked up a mango or two and chosen a couple other kinds of fruits to mix in!  His constructive feedback was that it wasn’t cold enough.  He makes his with frozen fruit, which makes perfect sense.  Temperature noted.  Next step for dad is introducing vegetables, I think I’ll make him a green lullaby next time I see him!

I ended up making this smoothie for myself the following morning!  I normally do a green juice first thing, but it really hit the spot and was perfect to sip on during a road trip down the coast of Lake Michigan.

#198 tomato bell   ★★★★★✩✩✩✩✩

I originally had thought that picking the right juice for my mother would be a far more difficult task.  But, then I remember her affinity for good Bloody Mary and the common place that V8 had in the house growing up.  Now, I realize that adding alcohol to a fresh vegetable juice is slight contradictory.  I don’t have a justification for it - just an admittance that it is somewhat defeating.

Anywho, the tomato bell juice was pretty damn good.  I knew my mom would love it, but I was NOT expecting Adam nor myself (both self-proclaimed haters of tomato juices) to enjoy it so thoroughly!  I will admit that I am harboring a small amount of guilt because after tasting a fresh tomato juice, I’m not sure my mother’s love affair with V8 will continue.  So for that, I apologize to you Mr. V8 and I thank you for your loyalty and appreciate the love you have shown my mother over the years.

I think I have some work to do to perfect it, though.  I have to get the spice just right and will need to pick up some vegan worcestershire sauce.

Overall, my first attempt to impress my parents was successful.
